Interior Insights: Kate Marker Interiors - Armac Martin
Today we’re showcasing a truly exceptional home belonging to Illinois-based interior designer Kate Marker of Kate Marker Interiors. Her signature design style centres on classic interiors with a fresh, modern feel and it’s this desirable aesthetic that Kate and her team are best known for when reimagining residential properties. Kate’s own home is a recent project that together with her family has seen her restoring a historic century-old house and we can’t wait to show you around…

Kate Marker on…

Her interior decor

‘The space is inviting and warm while honouring the vintage details of the home. The property consists of very large rooms so I wanted a light and bright neutral palette to be soothing and cohesive as the spaces flow into each other. The textures and details provided by the home's original architecture, such as detailed plaster crown moulding, bluestone floors and lead steel windows all provide an authenticity, yet allow for modern comfort that a family today desires - 100 years after the home was built.’

Creating a home

‘To make a house a home, rugs, window treatments and artwork should be given just as much consideration as furnishings, hardware and finishes. These items are often overlooked but truly bring the personalization and warmth to a room.’

Timeless style

‘To me, timeless style means a mix of old and new… spaces become dated if they channel the trends of one time, but instead, timelessness is achieved by layering and juxtaposing classic pieces with modern silhouettes plus a curated selection of decor and accessories.’

Interior Insights: Coffee Bar

Part of the kitchen, we couldn’t help but give this exceptional coffee bar it’s own section. The painted sage cabinets finished with polished brass hardware from our Washwood collection open to reveal innovative storage to house the coffee bar essentials complete with a mini sink and of course, the coffee machine.

Interior Insights: Dressing Area

A space to get ready should be brimming with natural light and this stylish dressing table unit is situated in the perfect position. Flourishes of polished brass glow radiantly when the light pours in adding a luxurious touch to the neat and neutral space.

Interior Insights: Kitchen

Kate’s kitchen is the epitome of when painted cabinets create the optimum backdrop for luxury brass cabinet hardware and we adore this green and gold setup. Paired with hand-glazed tiles from her own Kate Marker Homes collection in collaboration with The Fine Line Tile Showroom, the kitchen is welcoming and elegant in equal measure. Kate says ‘We spend most of our time in the kitchen; it is adjacent to our family room and breakfast nook so we start and end our days in this open concept room.’

Interior Insights: Closet

Through this beautifully curved archway is the closet. Kate notes ‘A clean and organized closet starts with the right kind of storage space - and lots of it.’ We couldn’t agree more and love how this flawless area featuring white chevron cabinets, polished brass hardware and jewel tones of teal marry up effortlessly to presenting a harmonious space.
