A Canadian home balancing natural warmth and timeless sophistication, our latest instalment of Interior Insights explores the kitchen, pantry and bathroom of the Levi's project by AKB Design.
A new construction for a young couple wanting to start their own family, the brief was to create a contemporary classic home enriched with character. Opting for natural materials like marble, wood and brass throughout the home, each thoughtfully selected for its timeless appeal.
Reflecting on the project, Audrée Kemp Bélange, Founder of AKB Design, shared with us, “What particularly touches me about this house is the way it creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere for its inhabitants. I wanted it to be a real home, a place where people feel good - and where the space stimulates comfort and conviviality. In my opinion, this makes the difference between a building and a truly inhabited house.”
The kitchen
In the kitchen, eyes instantly draw to the true centrepiece of the space - a custom marble-topped island, complete with reeded panels and storage. This area is framed with a modern candelabra ceiling light to complement the tone of the hardware whilst also adding a relaxed grandeur to the design.
Audrée commented, “Every detail was designed to optimise space while providing a pleasant visual and sensory experience.”

In a soft white hue, the shaker-style kitchen cabinetry is an elegant neutral canvas that pairs beautifully with the tones from the wooden flooring, island and beams, alongside the brass hardware.
The pantry
For the pantry, the decor mirrors the kitchen palette, achieving fluidity between the two rooms. A curated selection of functional and decorative objects in a mix of textures adds subtle accents of colour and an abundance of character that can effortlessly change with the seasons.

The bathroom
Embracing the quiet luxury aesthetic, the master bathroom celebrates the beauty of understated design with curved elements adding visual interest, as seen in the alcove shelving, shape of the bath, and also reflected in the choice of fixtures and fittings.

Audrée comments “Curved shapes have been drawn in a few strategic places to make the atmosphere of the house warmer and softer.”
Get the look
Aged brass hardware appears throughout the interior for its aged appearance. Audrée notes, “This brass finish has been our favourite for years. It is dark enough to bring warmth and contrast to greige cabinets, and its patina is perfect for bringing soul to a room. It looks like the pieces have been there for years already, adding to the character of each room.”
Dressed with pieces from our signature brass collections, the cabinetry hardware in each room adds classic charm, continuity and definition.
